During the session, our CTO, Dr. Fan Wu, introduced SomaFocus and shared how the technology is enabling new approaches to measuring neural activity in intact 3D cultures.
A key focus of the presentation was our novel automated depth recording capability, designed to capture electrophysiological activity from within intact brain organoids. This approach aims to address a major limitation in the field—accessing functional activity beyond surface-level regions.
Dr. Wu also walked through real data from early adopters, highlighting how researchers are using SomaFocus to measure functional activity across different organoid models and experimental conditions. These case studies demonstrated the potential for more consistent, detailed insight into neural behavior without complex sample preparation.
We closed the session with a live Q&A, where attendees asked thoughtful questions about experimental workflows, reproducibility, and applications in disease modeling and drug development. The discussion reinforced how important functional readouts are becoming across the field.
